Nicola Matteis – ‘Ground after the Scotch Humour’ | Classic FM

@olwenfoulkes7857 (recorder) plays Nicola Matteis’ vivacious ‘Ground after the Scotch Humour’, accompanied by @JonatanBougt (guitar) and @harrybuckoke (viola da gamba). Born in Naples, violinist Matteis became a popular composer in 1670s London, renowned for his variations on ‘grounds’ – repeated bass lines, typical of the Baroque era. Filmed at the @philipmouldco4360 Gallery for Classic FM, the ensemble performs before the work of another of Baroque London’s eminent artists, portraitist Mary Beale.
